The Good News of the movie Unconditional

UNCONDITIONAL. This 2012 Christian film was a real encouragement to me and my husband in many ways. So many affirmations to us individually and as a couple. I still tear when I remember some scenes and I would never tire watching it over and over again. It is one of those movies that will make your heart melt and make you believe that there is hope for everyone.

The screenplay, cinematography, the casting, and even the soundtrack were perfectly sewn together. I know, me saying this makes it a biased movie review (which this post is not) but when I see a movie that moves me so powerfully like this one, it leaves me a different person. As a Christian, life is as real as it gets. Sure we still have the joy even if we are in the midst of tragedy, but most of the time our humanity still catches up to us. At the time that my spirit was at the lowest, the Lord used this to remind me about Himself—how He brings Good News in the morning, how He can turn ugly things into beautiful stories, how He is my hope and my prize.

Unconditional is actually a film based on the true events of Joe Bradford’s life who champions the cause of at-risk and fatherless children. Since this is not really a movie review, I will spare you the details of the film and go download it and watch (if you haven’t yet)—you will thank me after, I tell you. :)

This particular song from the film really struck my heart. And it is has been my boys’ favorite lullaby when they would refuse to go back to sleep or we would have inconsolable crying spells. But quite honestly, I feel that this is God’s lullaby for me. I would play it on repeat each time my heart needs to let off frustrations or when I feel like the problems before me are too overwhelming to face or when my soul is just weary. As a full time work-at-home mom and homemaker, the first hour of the day can already be so tiring for me and there would be days I will feel so spent that I refuse to move. But then I need to snap quickly back since I have two young (demanding) children to attend to, a house to keep in order, work that has deadlines and a husband to serve. And sitting down trying to be quiet before the Lord with this song playing puts all those at a halt and allows me to just breathe.

So if you too feel weary, my dear friend, I’m sharing this song with you and may it bring you fresh waves of strength from the Lord.

Good News – Johnny Swim (from Unconditional soundtrack)

Sleepless one, oh, rest your heart with mine
And don’t you be surprised when all your fears fade
Take your time, oh love don’t be alone
Though pain is found, oh surely now Joy still abounds

Chorus:
And in your silence pray with me
And in the night dear, stay with me,
Oh, cause the morning is bringing good news!

Restless one wrestled by waves and storms,
Sleeping in in peace, never did seem such easy a feat
But don’t be so scared now, just keep your heart in line
And Heaven will send all of the best, angels to fly.

Chorus: (x2)
And in your silence pray with me
And in the night dear, stay with me,
Oh, cause the morning is bringing good news!
Oh, my darling, stay with me,
Oh cause the night’s not long as it seems
Oh, in the morning we’re gonna get our good news!
Oh, it’s coming!
Good news is coming!
Good news!
